SUMMARY
The Committee very briefly discussion priorities that needed to be more clearly depicted in the Business Plan, and then unanimously adopted the Plan. Members considered the draft report on the Committee visit to Gauteng, but decided to adopt the final version at a later meeting. The Committee then discussed dates of important meeting for this session.

MINUTES
The Committee perused the proposed Business Plan and suggested that the promotion of female constructors be made more clear. They felt that the Plan should also reflect that consumer education would be actively embarked on. The activities planned included assessing the effectiveness of a labour-intensive methods in housing delivery, visits to the provinces and assessment of the People's Housing Process (PHP).

Members would participate in building a home for a vulnerable woman, and a Committee delegation would attend the United Nations Habitat Conference. All housing support institutions should attend public hearings and some would also be visited by the Committee, such as the National Urban Reconstruction and Housing Agency (NURCHA), National Home Buyers Rebate Connection (NHBRC), National Housing Finance Corporation (NFFC) and the Rural Housing Loan Fund (RHLF). The suggested amendments were agreed upon and the business plan was unanimously adopted.

The Chairperson explained that the draft report on the Committee visit to Gauteng should be considered by Members and would latter be discussed and adopted. Public hearings would be held on Tuesday 2 November and Wednesday 3 November. A workshop with the Gauteng department MEC and the province Premier would be held before the Committee adjourned for this year.
