ATC090904: Report SABC Board candidates shortlisting

Communications and Digital Technologies

Report of the Portfolio Committee on Communications on the shortlisting of candidates to be interviewed to serve on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board, dated 4 September 2009:

 

The Portfolio Committee on Communications, having considered the nominations of candidates submitted to serve on the SABC Board in terms of the Broadcasting Act (No 4 of 1999 as amended) reports as follows:

 

The Committee invited the public to nominate candidates for consideration and recommendation to the National Assembly. The Committee received 239 nominations and shortlisted 31 candidates.  The shortlist is inclusive and reflects a broad cross-section of the population.

 

The candidates have been selected on the basis of the following criteria set out in the Broadcasting Act (No 4 of 1999 as amended): -

suitable academic qualifications;

experience and expertise in the fields of broadcasting policy and technology;

 

·         broadcasting regulation;

·         media law;

·         business practice and finance;

·         marketing;

·         journalism;

·         entertainment and education; and

·         social and labour issues.

 

The interviews are scheduled to take place from the 8 – 10 September 2009 in Parliament.  The following candidates will be interviewed:
