MINUTES
The committee agreed that the following be accommodated in the draft programme:
9 February 2000: A joint briefing on the Lotteries Bill

21 February 2000 (10h30 - 12h00): Briefing by the Danish delegation visiting parliament.

22 February 2000 (10h00 - 13h00): Briefing in Parliament by Department of Trade and Industry [DTI], and thereafter, a briefing by the Director-General of Foreign Affairs addressing foreign trade issues as well as economic affairs.

24 & 25 February 2000: Trip by the committee to DTI in Pretoria. It was proposed that this trip last for two days, to enable members to equip themselves with as much information as possible, and in turn inform their provinces.

Committee members also proposed the following issues be accommodated: Briefing with the Department of Minerals and Energy Affairs on the safety of mines, how the decision to close a mine is made, small-scale mining, as well as gender equality on the mines.

The briefing by the newly appointed Director-General of Trade and Industry, Alistair Ruiters, on the plans of restructuring the Department proposed for 16 February by that department will be rescheduled as this is provincial week.
