Committee Minutes dated 28 May 2009
The Committee adopted the minutes of two previous meetings. They also agreed that the two legislative proposals would be presented at the next meeting. The first proposal was an amendment to the South African Police Services Act and the second proposal was an amendment to the Commission on Gender Equality Act and the Human Rights Commission Act.
Consideration and Adoption of Committee Minutes
The Committee considered and adopted the minutes dated 28 May 2009 without amendments.
The Committee agreed to adopt the minutes of 28 August 2009 even though it had not yet been drafted and tabled as yet. This was done on the basis of Members’ knowledge of the discussions that took place at the workshop.
It was also agreed that the researcher would present those minutes to Members at the next meeting and that those Members who were absent could add their recommendations.
Introduction of the summary of the Legislative Proposals
The Chairperson tabled the two legislative proposals that were received. The first came from Ms DKohler-Barnard (DA), who proposed amendments to the South African Police Services Act of 1995.
The second was from Ms V Mentor (ANC), who proposed amendments to the Gender and Equality Act of 1996 and to the Human Rights Commission Act of 1994.
Both proposals would be presented at the next meeting.
