SUMMARY
The Committee adopted its interim report which was to
be submitted to a joint sitting of Parliament on 22
November. The report recommended that the Committee should be given a
deadline extension until 31 March 2008 in order to conclude its consultation
with stakeholders.
MINUTES
The Chairperson said that the Committee had before them an interim report
which was a request for an extension of the deadline to investigate the
Ex-Mineworkers matter as well as for research assistance. He explained that the
report needed to be adopted in order to be presented to the Parliament on 22
November. The Chairperson then took the Committee through the preliminary
report.
The Committee still intended to invite two crucial stakeholders (The Provident
Fund and Teba) for briefings before making its final recommendations. The
Chairperson said the Committee has not made its findings yet as all the
Committee has been doing is gathering information from important stakeholders.
The Chairperson moved the motion for adoption of the preliminary report. It was
seconded by Ms N
Matsemela (ANC). The Committee adopted the preliminary report
with amendments.
