Shortlisting of Candidates for Post of Auditor General
APPOINTMENT OF
AUDITOR GENERAL: AD HOC COMMITTEE
20 June 2006
SHORTLISTING OF CANDIDATES FOR POST OF AUDITOR GENERAL
Acting Chairperson: Mr V
Smith (ANC)
SUMMARY
The Committee asked the public to leave the meeting during the
short-listing discussion. On reopening the meeting, the Committee noted that
four names had been short-listed and these names would be made public once all
four candidates had been informed.
The candidate names were later released and are as follows: Diatile Lily Zondo,
Abdul Kariem Hoosain, Terrence Mncedisi Nombembe, Imtiaz Fazel.
MINUTES
The Committee closed part of the meeting to the public as it decided that the
short listing of the candidates for the Auditor General post should be
conducted in private since it involved discussing the merits and demerits of
the candidates.
After conducting
the short-listing process, the Committee reported that they had unanimously
agreed upon four candidates. The
Committee would not disclose their identity to the public, since they would
have to inform the people concerned first. The public would know by Wednesday
who the short-listed candidates were, and the interviews would be conducted on
27 or 29 June 2006. It was hoped to finalise the interviews in one day. There would be a standard set of questions
to achieve transparency and fairness.
Dr G Woods (UPSA) suggested that the candidates who were not successful receive
letters to thank them for applying. The chairperson stated that all the
candidates would receive letters by the end of the day to let them know if they
had been short-listed or not.
The committee would meet the following Monday, 26 June, to try to finalise the
interview questions. It was hoped that the interviews would be conducted on
Tuesday 27 June.
The meeting was adjourned.
