SUMMARY
The Committee agreed that the meeting be a closed one since the Department would be discussing its budget before the National Budget would be released the following day.

The Chair suggested that the meeting be a closed one since the Department would be discussing its budget before the National Budget would be released the following day.

Mr Jankielsohn (DA), Mr Blaas (ACDP) and Mr Middleton (IFP) felt that the meeting should be open.

The representative from the Department explained that they would be giving a detailed presentation concerning its budget for 2004/5 as the Committee had requested that it interact with the Department on its budget as part of its oversight function. The problem was that the information discussed could be released to the media before the Minister of Finance released it. She asked members again for their opinions.

Mr Jankielsohn (DA), Mr Middleton (IFP) and Mr Blaas (ACDP) said that in this light, they felt the meeting should be closed. The ANC Members agreed.

The Chair then declared that the meeting was closed so the PMG monitor had to leave.
