NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES

SUMMARY
Committee was satisfied with the number of nominees that it had received. Members were asked to discuss with their parties the most suitable candidates.

MINUTES
The Chairperson told members that as the nominations were re-opened they had now received about seventeen nominees, which was seen as a positive response. Parliament had resolved that by the 30 August 2002 the Committee should report to the house. Members returned to their respective political parties to scrutinize CV's presented and finalise their list of nominees.

Discussion
Mr M Mzizi (IFP) asked who would be compiling the shortlisting. He suggested that a sub-committee from the portfolio committee should be charged with the task.

Ms S van der Merwe (ANC) said she supported the position of the Chair but was not in agreement that a sub-committee should deal with the shortlisting instead of the whole Portfolio Committee.

Mr J Du Rand (NNP) shared the same sentiments with of the Chairperson.

The Chairperson concluded that the Committee would be happy if the shortlisting could be finished by Friday.
