Review of Code and legislation

The meeting, chaired by Mr Radue (NP and deputy chairperson), was first held in closed session to hear a complaint regarding disclosure by a member.

Following adoption of the code, members discussed the same matters as the previous meeting. These included Extension of the Code to the Provinces; and the Annual Review of the Code.

The Registrar, Ms Mahomed, gave a verbal report on ethics legislation. She raised the following questions: to whom legislation should apply, should it include the provincial electoral representatives as well as senior CEO's of state departments and Ministries; what should the role of the Public Service Commission be in this process; and the different ministries.

The NP's Mr Cehill Pienaar noted their support for the extension of legislation.

Mr Kenneth Meshoe (ACDP) wanted to know what happens when Ministers and NPs did not declare correctly their ownership of land and property. The chairperson suggested he lay a complaint in writing.
