NATIONAL NUCLEAR REGULATOR ACT, 1999 (ACT NO. 47 OF 1999)

NOTICE IN TERMS OF SECTION 8 (7)(a) OF THE NATIONAL NUCLEAR REGULATOR ACT, 1999 (ACT NO. 47 OF 1999), TO INVITE NOMINATIONS TO THE BOARD OF THE NATIONAL NUCLEAR REGULATOR

Under section 8 (7)(a) of the National Nuclear Regulator Act, 1999 (Act No. 47 of 1999), I L B Hendricks, Minister of Minerals and Energy, hereby invite interested parties to submit nominations of suitably qualified persons as candidates for the following relevant positions on the board of the National Nuclear Regulator: a representative oforganised labour, a representative of organised business, a person representing communities, which may be affected by nuclear activities, and seven other Directors. The Directors will hold office for a three-year period commencing on 1 September 2006.

Candidates nominated must be South African citizens who are not disqualified in terms of section 8(8) of the National Nuclear Regulator Act, 1999.

The main objective of the NNR is to provide for the protection of persons, property and the environment against nuclear damage through the establishment of safety standards and regulatory practices.
