Report of the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs on the “Who Am I Online” project of the
Department of Home Affairs, dated 21 October 2008:
The Committee met with the Deputy Auditor-General to receive
a progress report on the investigation into the “Who Am I Online” project on
the 21st of October 2008.
The Deputy Auditor-General reported that the Department of
Home Affairs had not provided his Office with the necessary documents requested
in order to complete the investigation, citing that the person who was
responsible for the project had left the Department. The Department is not
cooperating with the Office of the Auditor-General.
The Committee, therefore recommends
that the Minister of Home Affairs should consider suspending the project
pending the investigation on the project. The Committee further urges the
Department of Home Affairs to provide the Office of the Auditor-General with
the necessary documents as soon as possible.
The Minister of Home Affairs should report to the Committee
regarding the implementation of this recommendation within seven (7) working
days after adoption of this report by the National Assembly.
