SUBMISSION BY Carmen Nottingham: NEMA bill - grave concern about our democratic rights!

Dear Ms Albertina Kakaza

We believe that tomorrow (6th November) there will be public hearings on the NEMA Amendment Bill (362007). Please could you voice our concerns to the Portfolio Committee, as we feel (in fact
- we know) that this Amendment, if passed, will erode our constitutional right to a safe environment.

PLEASE record our concern at the hearings tomorrow about the fact that we DO NOT want to have Ministers unilaterally deciding on ANY developments without environmental assessment or public participation / consultation.

We are a Democracy, and Government officials therefore are bound to act in the interest of the PEOPLE Government needs to listen to the people. This Amendment will destroy that right and make a mockery of our Constitution that we fought so hard (in public participation) to bring to light.

Kind regards

Carmen Nottingham
