Sentech's Additional Inputs to Infraco

Introduction |
According to the Cabinet decision of 18 April 2007 Sentech and Infraco
can compliment one another in many ways in meeting the country's
telecommunications challenges with ease. Current Status and Footprint Tier 2 Metro Access Sentech - M ire/ess Broadband Service
are in Metro olitan areas slide 18-19 of DPE The DPE statement was based on Points of Presence (PoP) published on
Sentech's website which only refers to MyWireless product coverage as
indicated on Slide 18 -19 Sentech would like to bring the Committee's attention that some of
Sentech's broadband services using other technologies cover mostly rural and
under serviced areas. The Service The said broadband technologies deployed cover the following footprint Neotel Exclusivitv page 23 Commercial marketing arrangement that will ensure transparent pricing
p5 To ensure that low costs are passed down to subscribers, the agreement
will require Neotel to provide transparent pricing of Infra co's access
charges to Neote!. The Portfolio Committee is requested to ensure that the State
intervention through Infraco is able to reduce the high costs of
Telecommunications in South Africa. Sentech would like to get fibre Optic
capacity directly from Infraco and not through third party. 2 |
This Satellite Broadband network currently have extensive number of
remote terminal for customers sites for various ICT applications with a
potential to grow by 100% with potential business in the pipeline. Some of our Customers with Big Networks currently making use of our
platform are as follows: -- . Commercial To Currently have +- 600 sites with majority of the satellite shops
being in rural areas were there is little or no connectivity . Department of Home Affairs o Currently have 149 terminals for
mobile trucks and boarder post roviding services for the Department of Home
Affairs where they do not have facilities or infrastructure to provide
connectivity enabling them to verify tourists' details passing through South
African borders by accessing central database as well as vehicle clearances 3 . . SAPO SAPO currently has 30 sites connected with a numbers to grow beyond
100 sites by November 2007. . Schools e-Service o The Schools e-Service project
gives schools a networked LAB environment and provides learners' access to
the Internet and email. Each school is connected to a central network via
satellite connections, which is managed by Sentech and currently has 1100
sites. o Each school has a managed LAN
environment and run Microsoft operating systems and supported applications.
The LAN environment consists of Windows XP workstations, Windows server 2003
and has printing facilities . Department of Education o Currently has 10 sites rolled growing to
600 sites within the next 6 months
.Most of these schools are in deep rural and under serviced areas . Universal Services And Access AQency of South Africa o Sentech provides Internet
connectivity to 46 Thusong Centres around the country. These centres are designed
to provide community with access to e-govemment
as well as other on-line services. |
