Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development’s report on the matter of
the tagging of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment
Bill [B50B-2003], dated 18 May 2007
The National Assembly after the debate on the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and
Related Matters) Amendment Bill [B50B-2003] (the Bill) and prior to its
adoption, referred the Bill back to the Portfolio Committee on Justice and
Constitutional Development ("the Committee''), on 16 November 2006, in
order for the Committee to consult with the Joint Tagging Mechanism
("JTM'') in terms of Rule 249(3)(e) of the Rules of the National Assembly.
The Committee compiled a report, which was unanimously adopted and which formed
the basis of the consultation with the JTM. The JTM has confirmed the Section
75 tagging of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment
Bill. The Committee is satisfied and unanimously agrees with the decision of
the Joint Tagging Mechanism. The Committee accordingly recommends that the Bill
be set down for consideration by House.
