CHALLENGES ON THE KLERKSDORP PROJECT

 

·         592 Houses complete and ready for occupation.

 

·         Construction ceased end Oct 2006 due to non- payment by Council.

 

·         Lawsuit pending, postponed to May 07.

 

·         Council cites poor workmanship and irregularities in the appointment of contactor.

 

·         NW Housing facilitated discussions and commissioned NHBRC to prepare report on workmanship.

 

Agreement that contractor will return to site to rectify defects, amidst budgetary constraints.

 

PROGRESS REPORT ON THE RUSTENBURG PROJECT

 

·         Project Composition:- 800 Credit Linked Subsidies

 

-          1 000 Social Housing Subsidies

-          3200 Project Linked Subsidies

 

·         Total subsidies approved: 2 186

 

·         Installation of services is 99% completed

 

PROGRESS REPORT ON THE RUSTENBURG PROJECT

 

·         1000 Social Housing Subsidies:

 

- Land purchased (R8 million).

-          Bulk water and sewer 1 00% complete.

-          NHBRC Registration in process

- SH Grant funding (R549 000) to be spent on:

- Homebuyers Education Programme

- Rustenburg Regional Office

- Staff Training

 

CHALLENGES ON THE RUSTENBURG PROJECT

 

·         Delays with procurement process compromised the project funding - (36m2 vs 40 m2)

 

·         NW Housing Department is engaging with the Municipality to resolve this funding challenge.

 

·         Further delays stemming from concerns on the suitability of land for township establishment.

 

·         The matter has since been referred to the DME and approval is awaited.

 

·         Anticipated construction date: June 07.
