Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Appointment of Auditor-General, dated 20 June 2006:

 

The Ad Hoc Committee on the Appointment of Auditor General, having been established by the House on 18 April 2006 by decision of the Speaker to recommend a person for appointment by the President as Auditor General, reports as follows:

 

The committee met on 24 May 2006 to elect a chairperson and to discuss the program.

 

Advertisements were sent out and allow potential candidates three weeks to respond.

 

The Committee again met on 20 June to consider candidates to be short-listed.

 

Four candidates were short-listed as follows:

 

-                      Abdul Kariem Hoosain

-                      Terrence Mncedisi Nombembe

-                      Diatile Elizabeth Zondo

-                      Imitiaz Fazel

 

The Committee intends to invite the short-listed candidates for interviews commencing on 27 June 2006.

 

In order to conduct its business effectively, the committee requests the House to extend the reporting deadline of 21 June to 28 July 2006.
