DEAF FEDERATION OF SOUTH AFRICA

Deaf SA wish to bring the following matter to your urgent attention regarding positions recently advertised, please find the document attached and the discriminatory remarks highlighted in red

Deaf SA finds this extremely unacceptable and against the Constitution of South Africa, in the light that Parliament has taken up an Equality Campaign and having its Public Hearings this week (16- 20 October 2006) whereby Deaf SA was invited to after making a submission of unfair practices that are still in the midst of the 12111 year of our democracy in South Africa, therefore Deaf SA will make an example of this advert.

The Department is clearly in breach of the Promotion of Equality and prevention of unfair discrimination act"

Chapter 2 section 9 (a)(b)(c)

Chapter 5 section 24 (1)(2)

25 (1) ( C) (i) (ii)

section 29 1 (a) (b) (c) (d)

What guarantee does the department have when a hearing person applies for these positions that they will be literate and be able to full fill the duties?

The department is obliviously not aware of the abilities that are in the Deaf Community and Deaf SA request the department to make a public apology and to re advertise these positions without the discriminatory remarks.

Deaf SA wish to bring to the attention that this matter will be taken to the ultimate level and these kinds of practices will not be tolerated.

Yours sincerely

Bruno Druchen: National Director
