DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

REGULATIONS FOR THE OLDER PERSONS BILL

· The tender to appoint a service provider to develop Regulations for older persons Bill was advertised in the Sunday Times News paper on the 20th of August 2006.(TENDER NO SD6/2006)

· On Monday 4^th September 2006 a briefing session was held with the tenderers.

· Nineteen tenders attended the briefing session.

· The closing date for acceptance of proposals is 15th September.

· A panel selects the proposals to schedule to be held on the 20th September 2006.

· The appointed proposal will then be sent to Bid Committee.

· The Bid Committee meets fortnightly. It is hoped that the process to It will be finalized by 30th September 2006.

The time frames for the completion of task are as follows:

· Appointment of the service provider 30^th September 2006

· Draft regulations 15 January 2006/07

· Meeting with Portfolio end of January 2007

· Final report February 2007

In the mean time the following has been done to promote implementation of the Bill.

Consultation session with provinces to create awareness on the Bill. The following provinces have been consulted:-

· Mpumalanga Province

· Northwest Province

· Eastern Cape

Plans to consult with Provincial CFO's to hobby for funding to implement the Bill
