STANDING COMMITTEE ON PRIVATE MEMBER'S LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS AND SPECIAL
PETITIONS.
Meeting held on 01 August 2006
1. The Chairperson welcomed everyone at the meeting and indicated that she was
looking at the time and also minutes of the previous meetings in which the
issue of attendance is consistently noted.
2. The Chairperson, with the concurrence of other members present, declared the
meeting open even though it was just the two members present.
3. The Chairperson drew the attention of members to the program of the
committee, gave brief background to the issue of the Magistrate's Court
Amendment Bill and summarized issues relevant to the matter-noting general
concurrence on the matter.
4. The Chairperson pointed out that once the committee quorates the Magistrates
Court Amendment Bill would be finalized.
5. The Chairperson proposed the rescheduling of the program of the committee
and that the Constitution Fifteen Amendment Bill which was to be dealt with the
following day, be dealt with towards the end of September and then the
Electoral Bill, further that, the special petition by Big. J D Krige be
considered instead.
6. The Chairperson informed the meeting that she was going to have a media
briefing the following day at which the issue of poor attendance would be
raised and, also just to outline the process to be followed in dealing with the
proposal on the floor crossing.
7. A point was raised as to whether political parties would be allowed to make
inputs.
