Since its establishment seven years ago, AFU has seized criminal proceeds to the value of over R1.2 billion in 937 cases. It has completed 652 cases, where the criminals saw themselves part with assets worth R427 million.
R220 million of this money has been paid back to the victims of crime, and R99 million has been deposited into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA), from where it will be distributed to law enforcement agencies to combat crime or to organisations that assist victims.
