NEGOTIATING MANDATE OF THE EDUCATION LAWS AMENDMENT BILL [B23B-2005]

PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION


1. INTRODUCTION

The National Council of Provinces referred the Education Laws amendment Bill to Limpopo Legislature. The Bill was, upon receipt by the Legislature referred to the Portfolio Committee on Education for consideration.


2. PURPOSE OF THE BILL

The Bill seeks to amend the South African Schools Act, 1996 (Act no. 84 of 199$) and the

Employment of Educators Act, 1998 (Act No. 76 of 1.998)


By amending the above Acts, the Bill seeks to make technical adjustments to clarify certain maters and to insert provisions to cover matters which are provided for by the existing provisions of the Acts.


3. BRIEFING BY NATIONAL COUNCIL OF PROVINCES DELEGATION

The Committee was briefed by the NCOP Delegates on the Education Laws Amendment Bill on 13 October 2005.


4. FINDINGS

The Portfolio Committee on Education supports the Education Laws Amendment Bill.


5. NEGOTIATING MANDATE

The Committee, having gone through and supported the Bill, recommends to the NCOP delegates to support the Bill as introduced m the National Assembly.
