How YOU can help YOUR library:
- Lead by example: join your local library and encourage your family, relatives and friends to do the same
- Become involved in the activities of the library by joining the Library Committee/Friends of the Library
- Speak to constituents about becoming library members and educate them about being responsible library users e.g. Always return borrowed items on time; do not damage library material, property or buildings as they belong to all citizens.
- Interact with the library staff and users (and all constituents) to get to grips with issues affecting service delivery
- Encourage constituents to donate books and other materials to the library. If the library cannot use them then the Library Committee can run book sales to raise funds Mention the library as a project worth funding to prospective donors Keep libraries on the agenda when looking at service delivery
- Influence your counterparts at provincial and local government level to also support libraries
- Be available to present talks, tell stories, and otherwise get involved with the library's out reach and community activities
- Libraries are great venues for meeting with constituents and small group discussions. Utilising the library in this way will raise its profile in the community as a space that has value.
