The role of the Department is three fold:

Leadership , specific interventions and oversight


1)Leadership role covers the areas of the Department’s DG serves as the Co- Chair of the Social Cluster

Leads the Technical Task Teams regarding the comprehensive social security system and early childhood development.

Funding and Conditional Grants

FUNDING

  1. Provincial equitable share allocation provides funding, but the extent varies amongst provinces.
  2. Conditional Grant funding has doubled over the last two years from R65million to R138 million
  3. NGO support in terms of Policy on Financial Award for all services on HIV/AIDS
  4. Donor funding through a number of channels and the quantum has not been fully costed
