HOW PARLIAMENT DEAL WITH OUTCOME OF INVERSTIGTION INTO ABUSE OF TRAVEL FACILITIES – PROPOSAL BY PRESIDING OFFICERS

The stage has been reached n the investigation into the abuse of travel facilities where it is proposed to brief the Join Rule Committee on progress and request the Committee to decide on how Parliament should proceed in this matter.

A confidential report has been received from PriceWaterhouseCoopers as well as a confidential status report from the national Director of Public prosecutions. The Presiding Officers accordingly propose to appoint a small multi-party Task Team to consider the findings and recommendations contained in the PriceWaterhouseCoopers report. Recommendations should then be presented on the appropriate steps to be taken by Parliament.

The Task Team should complete its task by the 18th of March 2005 after which we will report to the Joint Rules Committee.
