SPECIFIC FOCUS FOLLOW-UP VISIT TO KWAZULU NATAL - TAKING PARLIAMENT TO THE PEOPLE

Follow-up visit to focus on the undertaking given by the MEC:
- His department would provide a tractor to the project.
- To revisit the farm on 16 November 2004.
- To facilitate access to the mentorship programme run by the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, to the members of the project.
- Amagwe Village
- Sokhulu Community Garden
Follow-up visit to focus on the following:
- Insufficient water supply - project is using buckets for watering.
- The site in inaccessible as there are no roads.
- Meeting with farmers
- Meeting with the MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Felix Cane growers Association, SA Cane Growers Association, Emerging Farmers Association, National Farmers Union, representatives from the National Agricultural Cooperative Sector and a representative from the emerging farmers.
Follow-up visit to focus on the following:
- The appointment of extension farmers could not be complete due to a lack of funding
- More funding needed to improve roads and causeways to assist in agricultural development.
- EPWP, including sustainable subsistence farming - Empangeni area
Follow-up visit to focus on the following:
- Process of employing people for projects is problematic
- Tenders are inaccessible, except to many of the larger companies.
- The training of community development workers was a concern
