Joint presentation by the member Departments of the Steering Committee on the Children’s Bill on issues that came up during the Intersectoral Workshop on the Children’s Bill which took place at Willow Park Centre, Johannesburg on 01-02 December 2004.

NB. The joint presentation should where possible entail, among other things, the following:

  • Comprehensive Report on identified gaps and overlaps on social protection of children.
  • A report on possible gaps and overlaps identified between the Child Justice and Children’s Bills.
  • A report by different Departments on areas where they utilise social workers.
  • A clear policy on child-headed households.
  • Report on social security issues across various Departments.
  • Report on different aspects to Age.

NB. The Department of Social Development’s legal drafter will take the Committee through the Children’s Bill [B70-2003] Reintroduced clause by clause. The legal drafter should at this stage be in a position to inform the Committee, in decisive terms, of which issues that are currently in Section 76 Bill the Department has decided to reincorporate into Section 75.   • DSD on its strategic plans and programmes for 2005.
  • NDA on its strategic plans and programmes for 2005.
  • CDA on its strategic plans and programmes for 2005.
  • SASSA on, among other things, how well the preparations for 01 April 2005 are going.

Necessary documentation should be made available for Committee members in good time to allow for thorough preparations before meetings. NB The affected Departments should take cognizance of the fact that 3 members of the Committee are blind and therefore their documentation should be adaptable to their condition.
