PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION

MISSION

To ensure the interaction with the Department on education issues linked on administrative matters and relating to policy (formulation), monitoring the implementation of systems, planning with regard to finances, infrastructure and information systems; monitoring of Higher Education transformation through an institutional planning and funding framework; and the National Strategy which co-ordinates the systems comprising the Senior Secondary component of schooling and Further Education and Training Colleges; Adult Basic Education and Training; Early Childhood Development and Inclusive Education and ensuring the implementation and delivery of quality education in the 21^st Century.

VISION

As a Portfolio Committee our vision is:

Facilitating public participation, monitoring and oversight in legislative processes

Conferring with all relevant structures on educational matters

To enhance and build capacity of Members to effectively participate, monitor and oversee the Executive

Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of restructuring of Higher Education Institutions of Learning, Further Education and Training Colleges and General Education

Ensuring and monitoring that the Department include in its measurable objectives job creation and poverty alleviation programmes in the spirit of Tirisano

Processing and ensuring the passing of legislation and international protocols and conventional instruments

Participating in National and International Educational Conferences

Conferring with National Council of Provinces on legislation affecting Provincial Legislatures on educational matters
