CHAMBER OF MINES OF SOUTH AFRICA

ENERGY REGULATOR BILL (B9-2004)

The Chamber of Mines appreciates the opportunity to comment on the Energy Regulator Bill.

The Chamber supports the establishment of the Energy Regulator as envisaged by the Energy Regulator Bill (B9-2004). In particular it welcomes the provision for a majority of part time members of the Regulator and the requirement that the Minister must call for nominations from the public prior to appointing members of the Regulator.

The Chamber also strongly supports the requirement for separate accounts and the proportional sharing of costs as envisaged in clause 13 (2) and (3).
