  • Are there 74 towns in the Free State
  • Yes, actually the FS has more than 80 towns, and the FS DoH has tried to cover all these with health services
  • What additional measures do you implement to retain staff
  • We are trying our best to retain personnel, using the scarce skills and rural allowances – financial incentives
  • Thabo Mofutsane personnel also receive rural allowances
  • Personnel providing mobile services rural clinics will be considered for the rural allowancws next
  • Non-financial incentives are also be provided
  • But it is still problems in retaining staff
  • We still have doctors leaving despite allowances, and other refusing to go to the rural areas
  • Do you have adequate and regular supply of medicines
  • Very good stock control occurs. Clinics have 80% drug supply level. An advanced electronic system is used to order drugs

  • We use it toreport to them, but it does not always help us report on province specific issues

  • It is a national process to assist provinces that do not have medical schools to catch up
  • Why do you provide bursaries to matriculants and not your personnel
  • We need scarce professionals, hence we provide abuout 80 bursaries to pruse careers in paharamcy, medicne etc and return to serve in the FS
  • How did you reduce your personnel expenditure from 62% to 60,6%/

  • Except for bloemfontein, LG salaries were lower than FS DoH salaries esp in the small town

    • Why did you stop the disaster preparedness grant (infrastructure grants)
  • Infrastrucure grant was for flood relief and is no longer required
  • How many ARV sites do you have
  • Provinces has 5 districts, plans to have ARVs provision in its site
  • Goldfields will be launched tomorrow
  • Phased roll-out will happen.
  • Bloemfontein will be the next phase in the roll-out

  • Clinics are open for 24 hours, some provide 12 hours and 8 hours services. Nurses are on call, can be fetched by the police to open lc
