b. Chairperson’s Overview:

The problems in the Parliamentary villages still need further attention

International trips that were not approved did not demotivate members

It was not easy for the Chairperson to carry out his duties without a Person secretary.

The Committee is happy with the good working relationship with the Department, IDT, and the CIDB.

c. MISSION:

Guided by the Rules of Parliament promulgated in terms of the Constitution to play an oversight role on the ministry and the Department. To this end it will exercise a rigorous oversight role in such a way that it contributes towards the improvement in the quality of life of all South Africans.

d. VISION:

To deliver services by enabling people to provide for themselves, their communities and to better life for all.

e. OBJECTIVES:

To pursue its MISSION, the Portfolio Committee on Public Works has seven overriding goals namely:

To cover a greater volume of work which is of relevance to its MISSION.

This in terms of the number of state related bodies and finance-related issues it oversight.

To strengthen the qualitative aspects of its investigative work.

To understand and respond to existing areas of financial management weaknesses and under-performance.

To increase the consistency, regularity and assertiveness of follow-up actions where corrective actions has been deemed necessary.

To creatively and assertively influence improvements in financial management, wherever this might be

necessary in the broader public sector.

To influence and provide legislative framework to department’s strategic plan.
