Letter dated 13 October 2003 from the Minister of Education to the Speaker of the National Assembly, in terms of section 65(2)(a) of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act No 1 of 1999), explaining the delay in the tabling of the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the Department of Education for 2002-2003:

Dear Frene

LATE TABLING OF THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
I wish to apologise for not tabling the Annual Report of the Department of Education in time, as required in terms of section 65 of the Public Finance Management Act (Act No 1 of 1999).

I can confirm that all the requirements were met concerning timeous submission of the financial statements to the Auditor-General and the auditing of the financial records and statements by the Auditor-General. Unfortunately, there were technical delays experienced by the printers in obtaining the material that was needed for printing. The report will be delivered to your offices on 14 October 2003.

I trust that my sincere apology will be accepted.

With my best wishes.

Yours sincerely
Professor Kader Asmal, MP
Minister of Education
