VISION, MISSION

Vision  

"A society in which there is social and economic justice for all, where women and men are able to achieve their full human potential, and in which women have equal access to, and control over, economic resources.

Mission  

To ensure that gender equality is systematically taken into account in all DTI values, policies, programmes, its working environment, work practices, monitoring and evaluation systems and to establish the requisite structures, process and timeframes for achieving this.

INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT

FINANCIAL RESOURCES 2003.

INITIATIVES FOR 2003.

1)  Incorporated and established the Gender and Women’s Empowerment Unit as part of the Enterprise, Industry and Development Division(EIDD). Document.  

2) Revised the Gender and Women’s Empowerment Policy and Strategy framework – 2nd draft.

3) Developed business plan with miles stone and incorporated this as past of the divisional strategic plan.

4) Recruited two support staff.

5) Secured a gender budget as well as as separate budgets for initiatives.

6) Launched the dti women’s forum annual conference and awards.

8) Established a dti internal clinic providing medical and counselling services specifically for women.

7) Supported the Spousal offices.

8) Facilitated the process for growing and supporting women’s enterprises through SAWEN(Unrolling SAWEN).

9) Secured committed budget for SAWEN groundwork.

10) Officially launched SAWEN Provincial chapters in Eastern Cape; KZN; Gauteng; Bloemfontein; North West; Northern Cape; and Limpopo.

11) Facilitate a process of engendering the draft BEE strategy and Bill.

12) Recruited private sector to support women entrepreneurship programme JSE; APDF; BMF and Absa.

INITIATIVES CONT…

13) Hosted the national technology for women in business conference for 2003.

14) Supported the international conference on Courageous Leadership.

15) Commissioned a study on assessing the national status of SA Women entrepreneurs.

15) Established the Gender and Women’s Empowerment Committee for monitoring impact of our policies.
