Letter from the Minister in The Presidency dated 26 June 2002 addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly:
Dear Madam Speaker
May I take this opportunity to convey our sincere appreciation of Parliament's handling of the MDDA legislative process, which culminated in the Third Reading of the MDDA Bill [B 2B-2002] on 6 June 2002.
The legislation was assented to by the President and the Act was published in the Gazette dated June 24, 2002. The proclamation for the date on which the Act will come into operation is awaiting the President's signature and we proposed that the date be July 8, 2002.
I hereby request your assistance in expediting the referral of the said legislation to the relevant Portfolio Committee to initiate the nomination processes for the members of the MDDA Board. The legislation provides for the appointment of a nine-person Board, six of whom are to be appointed on the recommendation of the National Assembly.
Your consideration of and assistance in this matter would therefore be greatly appreciated.
