The Committee discussed the Draft Report and all structural, vernacular and grammatical amendments that needed to be made. The Report would be considered further, amendments would be included and it would be adopted at a later date.
Meeting report
The Chairperson briefed the Committee on the forthcoming Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) visit. She read through the entire Draft Report to the Committee and proposed various technical and grammatical amendments.
It was confirmed that the next draft of the Report would include comments from the Chairpersons of each of the nine State- owned Enterprises’ (SOE).
Regarding nuclear waste, the Chairperson suggested that a nuclear waste disposal policy be put in place as currently there were none.
Mr P Hendrickse (ANC) was concerned about South African Airways’ (SAA) financial loss and said that the Committee should consider a meeting with SAA to discuss its profitability. He appealed for the Department to adopt a more proactive oversight duty towards SAA.
Additionally, Mr Hendrickse said that the Committee needed greater interaction with the Department.
