Departmental Proposed Amendments: 16 July 1998

SUMMARY

DETAILED MINUTES
The department went through the Bill, explaining the key concepts, as outlined in the Memorandum on the Objects of the Land Affairs General Amendment Bill, which is found at the back of the Bill.

The Bill contains proposed amendments to a number of laws administered by the Department of Land Affairs. The proposed amendments are mostly of a technical nature, and do not justify separated amendment bills. Many of the amendments aim to make bills applicable throughout SA, as they were originally passed when the homelands were not included in the definition of South Africa. Other amendments aim to extend bills that are intended as temporary bills, to allow for the extended time it is taking to draw up a Tenure Bill.
