MINUTES

The Chairperson said that the Committee would be divided into two groups. One group would go to KwaZulu-Natal and the other to the North West Province for an oversight visit of Labour Centres and Multi-purpose Centres. The scheduled date for the visit was 15 August 2005.

The Committee Secretary would inform Members in due course about targeted areas after proper consultation. During the oversight visit to the Eastern Cape, Transnet had offered to provide transport to the Coega Industrial Development Zone. She urged Members to indicate on time whether they would be available for the Eastern Cape visit.

The Committee Secretary informed Members that the Department of Communications had invited Members to a workshop on the Convergence Bill. Sentech had also invited Members to their own workshop on that Bill. On 7 September 2005, the Committee would meet with Denel.

Ms Ntwanambi (ANC) suggested the inclusion of Arrivia.Kom and Portnet in the 7 September meeting with Denel.

The Committee Secretary reported that the studytour to Malayisia had been postponed because they could not finalise logistics with the High Commissioner. The High Commissioner was busy co-ordinating Malaysian State visit, which coincided with the study tour. The studytour had been re-scheduled for 12 to 16 September 2005.

Ms Ntwanambi suggested the inclusion of Alexcor briefing during the Department of Public Enterprises and SAFCOL briefing. The Committee Secretary replied that she would supply the dates for the briefing after she had finished arrangements with the respective parties.

Ms Ntwanambi enquired about any pending legislation relevant to the Committee. The Chairperson replied that there was no legislation pending for this year.

The meeting was adjourned.
