LIMPOPO STUDY TOUR REPORT: ADOPTION

Chairperson: Mr L Mokoena (ANC)

Documents handed out
Draft report on Limpopo study tour

SUMMARY
The Department was supposed to brief Members on racial tendencies among the South African National Defence Force SANDF) members in military academies and hospitals. However the Ministry of Defence apologised on the Department's behalf for failing to receive the request. Members were disappointed and said that the matter had to be prioritised early next year. The Committee adopted the Limpopo study tour report.

MINUTES
The Department was not available for the scheduled briefing. The head of Ministerial Services, Mr Thabiso Ratsomo, apologised on the Department's behalf. He said there had been communication problems around a letter inviting the Department to provide a briefing. A letter had been sent to the Department and Ministry, and Mr Ratsomo said the Ministry believed the Department had received the letter. However the Department's Director said they had not received the letter.

Mr J Le Roux (DA) commented that he did not see the incident as a sign of disrespect and thought the meeting should then be cancelled. He suggested that another letter be sent.

MR L Moseki (ANC) agreed that another letter be sent and that it be made a priority next year.

The Chairperson asked that a message be conveyed to the Department about the disappointment of members and that the Committee felt that the Department needed to put its house in order. He felt the briefing was necessary prior to Members undertaking a study tour to army bases in the different provinces. Members would have been fully informed by the time they had to leave. He accepted Mr Ratsomo's apology, but felt there would not be a need for another letter.

Mr Ratsomo thanked Members for their understanding and promised to pass on the Member's sentiments to the Department.
