DISCUSSION OF OVERSIGHT REPORT: LIMPOPO, MPUMALANGA AND GAUTENG

SUMMARY
The Committee made technical changes to the oversight report and agreed that Members make further recommendations before adopting the report that Friday 5 November 2004. The Chairperson also complained about Committee attendance and reminded Members of their duties.

MINUTES
The Chairperson stated that Members who failed to attend Committee meetings would be issued with three letters to explain their absence. Failure to respond would lead to the Committee making an application to the Speaker for the warrant of arrest of Members for contempt of Parliament.

The Chairperson continued that Boxing South Africa would make a presentation the next day. They needed to question Boxing and Athletics South Africa on progress in transformation. Also on Friday 5 November, the Committee would hear from Swimming South Africa, as it was unacceptable that this team had not produced black or coloured swimmers.

The Committee then proceeded to make technical minor changes on the oversight visit to Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Gauteng draft report. The Chairperson said that Members needed to make clear that recommendations in the report should be given serious attention by the Minister and the Department. Members needed to read the report again and make further recommendations.

Mr C Frolick (ANC) suggested that those who had been on the study tour draw up the recommendations by Thursday, and have these ready for inclusion in the report to be adopted at Friday's meeting. The Chairperson agreed.
